UndershirtGuy.com - Positive reviews on RibbedTee undershirts

Thursday, May 29th, 2008

Earlier today, a guest writer on The UndershirtGuy.com blog published a nice review of our RibbedTee undershirts. You can read the full review here, but here are some excerpts that we especially liked:

RibbedTee is an amazing idea and it blows me away that no one has ever thought about manufacturing a ribbed undershirt before! Big props to the creativity of the founder in designing this concept. It’s nice to see someone creating an innovative shirt that can compete against other manufacturers.

The fabric is 100% lightweight cotton and was surprisingly very breathable.

The shirt was very form fitting and I liked the fit in the arms, especially. It tapers nicely and gives you a nice form fit (it gives you a slight slimming effect, yet it’s very comfortable).

This shirt is being marketed for it’s cool comfort and form fit so I wore it to the gym. This shirt’s wicking capabilities are great! It breathed just as good, if not better than any of my ribbed tank tops.

In summary, if you’re someone who wears a wife beater tank top or a Hanes undershirt and you’re looking for an undershirt that will breathe nicely, keep you cool, and fit better than most….then I highly recommend purchasing the RibbedTee. I definitely see this shirt as a better fitting, more breathable alternative to Hanes or Jockey. I would love to see RibbedTee in Target, Kohls, Nordstrom Rack, etc….

Thanks to the Guest reviewer who wrote up such a nice review of our undershirt. We’d love to see our shirts in Target, Kohls, Nordstrom Rack, (and Walmart) too! Attention retail buyers — give us a call!

A deal on some great undershirts! RibbedTee undershirts reviewed by Ask Andy.

Tuesday, May 20th, 2008

We’re super pleased to be referred to as “an innovation in underwear” on the super popular Ask Andy About Clothes website and forums (The World’s Most Popular Website Devoted to Men’s Clothing Advice!).

If you’re a man, and haven’t heard about the Ask Andy About clothes website, you’ve got to check the site out. What started out as a hobby for site creator Andy Gilchrist, has turned into one of the web’s largest destinations devoted to providing advice on everything related to men’s clothing and fashions. Andy reserves a section of the site for information about products he’s personally reviewed, and the forums section is there for people to share, discuss, and debate about men’s fashion.

On Andy’s Recommendation page, he provides some really nice comments about the benefits of RibbedTee undershirts:

“it’s a unique combination of what’s great in a ribbed athletic tank undershirt with the traditional Tee, with an improvement on both!”

“You get the close fit, comfort and cooling effects of the ribbed fabric with a tee’s underarm perspiration and deodorant/anti-perspirant protection for your shirt.”

“It’s the perfect undershirt at a more than perfect price.”

We feel honored that Andy took the time to review our undershirts and we couldn’t be more pleased that he had such nice things to say about us. Thanks Andy, we really appreciate it!

The Lowdown On Undershirts

Wednesday, May 14th, 2008

I came across this Askmen.com article where blogger and fashion correspondent Chris Rovny answers the following question from one of his readers:

I recently landed my first real office job and noticed that a lot of my colleagues wear T-shirts or “wife-beaters” underneath their dress shirts. What’s the deal? Is it fashionable, or not, to wear something underneath a dress shirt? And if it is, are there any rules to follow when picking which one to wear?

Chris provides his reader with the following advice:

Firstly, men who tend to sweat excessively wear undershirts to prevent sweat stains from becoming visible throughout the day. Other guys wear them to save on dry cleaning because undershirts help keep the sweat and other natural body odors from penetrating the shirt, keeping it clean for a longer amount of time…more here

…But if you do wear a T or sleeveless shirt (also known as a wife-beater) underneath your dress shirt, then the general rule is that it should be as sheer or thin as possible.

…Also, steer clear of undershirts that feature thicker and more apparent seams around the arms and collar because they tend to stand out more. Finally, you should wear a low-cut V-neck undershirt when wearing a dress shirt sans tie.

Gosh, did Chris know about the special features of the RibbedTee undershirt? It sounds like he’s describing them to a “tee” (no pun intended).

  • “thin as possible” - we pride ourselves on making our undershirts with a specially designed super-soft 6.0 ounce 2×1 ribbed cotton. This allows us to provide you with an extremely comfortable, form fitting undershirt that breathes so it keeps you cool all day long and won’t show through your outwear.
  • “steer clear of undershirts that feature thicker and more apparent seams” - no thick seams on our undershirts! We have purposely designed our shirts with flat, low-profile seams around the neck collar line as well as around the arms and bottom.
  • “low cut v-neck” - Check. We offer both types of collars (crew neck and v-neck) to choose from.

Great advice from an expert in the fashion world. Check out one of our product pages for a full list of features we offer in our undershirts.

Undershirt - Pit stains are stoppable

Saturday, May 10th, 2008

So we’ll go slightly off topic today, but it’s a topic that’s just as important to us as buying the right undershirt. If you’re like me, you probably have a whole drawer full of older undershirts that are showing heavy wear and tear on them — and when I say that, I’m talking about those unpleasant yellow stains that have developed in the underarm area. The pit stains (ugh)!

Short of throwing them all away and buying a whole supply of new RibbedTee undershirts (you can still do that, you know), there is something you can do to reduce those unsightly yellow stains from your existing undershirts. We found this article on SweatSolutions.org where they interviewed Mike Thomas, a chemical engineer and the Team Leader for Proctor & Gamble’s highly successful Secret antiperspirant line.

Thomas provides the following advice:

“People assume that sweat causes underarm stains,” says Thomas, “But you wouldn’t have stains if it weren’t for your antiperspirant. Antiperspirants are very acidic and it’s that acidity that causes the colors on your clothes to shift.”

“The best way to prevent antiperspirants from transferring onto clothes and from potential staining, according to Thomas, is to apply just a thin layer of antiperspirant to your underarms and to allow it to dry thoroughly before donning clothing. It’s especially important to allow roll-on and gel formulas time to dry before dressing.”

But that’s OK, you still have a fighting chance to prevent stains and it’s a lot easier than you think. “Just rinse the affected area of the garment with cold water before you wash it,” says Thomas. “It’s the acidity of antiperspirants that causes staining. Instead of washing those stains out, warm or hot water can ‘set’ them by causing a chemical reaction that binds the stain to the fabric. Pretreating with a stain remover can make the situation worse. Keep it simple. Just rinse with cold water, then launder the garment in the warmest water recommended by the label…

Well we think that’s some great advice, Mike. We’ll do some testing by following Mike’s advice and report our results back here.

If you’ve found a way to keep your undershirts looking their best, let us know by posting a reply here.

Undershirt choices - alternatives to Hanes or Fruit of the Loom

Tuesday, May 6th, 2008

Here at RibbedTee.com, we believe we have created an affordable, one-of-a-kind undershirt for people looking for a better, more comfortable alternative to the typical Hanes® or Fruit of the Loom undershirt you can get at your local discount store.

Of course, we’re not blind to the fact that there are some other companies out there that are also trying to provide you something better to choose from. We applaud these companies for their efforts and thought we’d share a short list of them here for our readers, so in the unlikely event our undershirts aren’t what you’re looking for (that’s very unlikely), maybe one of these will be:

  1. Tommy John (www.tommyjohnonline.com) - this company provides an undershirt with something called Tailored Stretch™ technology that uses a tailor and stretch material from the belly button down to prevent their undershirt from riding up underneath your clothing.
  2. Collected Threads (www.collectedthreads.com) - these folks offer up an undershirt designed with a wider and deeper neck opening to keep it from showing through your outerwear.
  3. Vdri undershirt (www.vdri.net) - this undershirt company is offering a v-neck, dri-fit undershirt made from a specialized, soft and breathable form of polyester.
  4. Grigioperla (available at barenecessities.com) - although super expensive ($65), this undershirt is made out of 89% Cotton, 11% Elastane-Spandex and has a nice European cut.
  5. Hanro (also available at barenecessities.com) - also super, duper expensive ($78-$92) but provides those with more money than they know what to do with, an undershirt made out of “luxurious stretch cotton” (not sure what that is).
  6. 2xist (www.freshpair.com or barenecessities.com) - one of the more well known undershirt brands that offers up some nice fitted cotton undershirts ranging in the $20-$30 range.
  7. Coolmax undershirt (www.coolclothingusa.com) - this website provides a nice variety of undershirts and compression shirts in the $20 and up range made out of the coolmax® moisture wicking fabric (sometimes worn as undershirts, but mostly for sports wear) and are supposedly comparable to Underarmour®.

No matter what brand of undershirt you decide upon, make sure you choose one that best fits your lifestyle, your particular need, and of course, your budget!
